Self LoveOne frame, taken apart

Self Love is one of three short films Klaus Kremmerz drew for Hermès. The film began as a black-and-white sketch, panel by panel. Each key scene was then drawn in line, filled with flat colour and finished with a texture of his own, and the finished storyboard went to the animators.

Below, one key frame taken apart into the layers it was built from. Click to put it together.

Sketch

The whole film first exists as a black-and-white sketch, panel by panel: framing, gestures, the rider, the horse, the dog.

Line

Each key scene is then redrawn in clean line on its own layer. Every object, down to the scarf on the bale, is drawn line by line.
